The Misunderstood Fox and the Summer Revelry

Dedicated to my father, Fenix the Fox

In the heart of a vibrant forest, where the trees whispered secrets in the gentle breeze and the sun bathed everything in a golden glow, the animals decided to host a summer party like no other. It was a spectacle of sizzling grills, flowing drinks, and lively music—a celebration of freedom and indulgence under the watchful eye of the full moon.

Among the guests was Fenix the Fox, a creature known for his cunning wit and a reputation that often preceded him. But beneath his sleek fur and mischievous grin was a longing for acceptance and connection with his fellow woodland creatures.

As the party unfolded with laughter and the aroma of delicious barbecue filled the air, Fenix hesitated at the edge of the festivities. He watched as the other animals danced and reveled in the hedonistic delights of the feast, unsure if he would be welcomed into their midst.

Yet, despite his reservations, Fenix couldn't resist the temptation. With a flick of his tail and a nervous grin, he cautiously approached the gathering. The animals glanced at him with curiosity and whispered amongst themselves, unsure what to make of the fox known for his tricks.

Undeterred, Fenix decided to showcase his culinary skills. He offered to tend to the grill, flipping burgers and basting skewers with a flair that caught everyone's attention. Soon, the scent of perfectly charred meat mingled with the festive air, drawing even more animals to the gathering.

As the night wore on and the moon rose high in the sky, casting its serene light over the clearing, the atmosphere shifted. Olivia the Owl, known for her wisdom and keen insight, observed the unfolding scene with a knowing gaze.

"Tonight, we celebrate not just our freedom and indulgence," Olivia spoke with a voice that commanded attention, "but also the hard work and dedication that make moments like these possible. Every delicious bite and joyful laugh is a testament to the effort behind the scenes."

The animals paused, reflecting on Olivia's words. They realized that while the party offered moments of glamour and excitement, it was the collective effort and shared contributions that made it truly memorable. Fenix, with his skills and willingness to contribute, had shown them a different side—a fox not just of cunning, but of camaraderie and heart.

**Moral of the Story:**

Amidst the pursuit of enjoyment and lavishness, it's important to remember the significance of perseverance and commitment that form the foundation of our moments of happiness. Genuine acceptance and a sense of belonging stem from acknowledging and valuing the efforts of others, going beyond initial impressions and preconceptions.

FABLE: The Fox, The Leopard & The Wolf and a game of Dominos

“Let’s have a feast tonight,” roared the Wolf, announcing the sheer elation that chaperoned killing the first deer in Spring.

Spring – when flowers bloom, nature thrives, and when the predators are at their utmost brutal form.

"Let's add a Dominoes competition to make it a night worth remembering – the lower end of the food chain needs to know who's in charge!" Sneered the Leopard, licking their lustrous coat that glimmered like shooting stars.

“Let’s let this glorious night announce our union as well – the Leopard and the Wolf – a union for generations to remember,” suggested the Leopard.

The Wolf smile switched to a frown with a ghoulish fear materializing on their face.

Commitments. The Wolf loathed commitments and Leopard knew that. The Leopard has tried to convince the Wolf at numerous occasions, but this was the first time they succeeded.

Isn’t life just about hunting, bedding the right animal, and reveling in the joy? The thoughts crowded the Wolf’s mind.

And so, the night came. With Domino players from even the farthest of jungles ready to take a gamble and rub off their skill in their challengers’ faces. The foxes served drinks to the animals – mysterious drinks with shades of sunset red cloaking those fidgeting fizz bubbles. The Wolf loved all hues of red.

“Ahm…” The Leopard began. The Wolf knew where this was going. “On this glorious day, we announce-“

THUD!

The Wolf loud fist on the table broke the Leopard's speech. "Wait, wait, my love. Let our guests have their drinks first.”

“LET'S RAISE A TOAST TO THIS MAGNIFICENT SEASON!"

Every predator raised their chalices, including the Leopard, as they indulged in their mystifying drinks.

Silence. Pin-drop silence.

The Wolf stood tall as each one of their guests dropped down to the floor. Falling like haphazard dominos. Poisoned.

Saturated hues of scarlet colored each animal's face as they took their last agonizing breaths.

The Dominoes game DID play on that night, but it was a very different kind. Where dead bodies fell – one after the other.

The Wolf leaned onto the dying body of the Leopard. "My love, I hate commitments. I had to do that – you were forcing me." The Wolf walked out, smiling at the sky, which was also faintly red.

The Wolf had won at this Dominoes game.

Moral: Commitments shouldn’t be forced. Get committed only when it feels right.
